CSS teams with Chicago Public Schools to participate in Real Men Read program

Hello all! It has been a long time since I’ve written here. I hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Part of what I do in a day at CSS involves spending an hour per month at a local school, reading out loud to a classroom. The program is called Real Men Read. It started a couple of years ago where gentlemen from the community spend an hour, once a month, reading to a class. The classes are K, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade. The program currently has 750 men from across Chicago who donate their time! This is the largest number of participants yet and it keeps growing.
This is my 2nd year participating and I read at Whitney Elementary. I have had the 7th grade for the last two years and it is a pleasure to read to them. We have read books about slavery, Japan, voting and several other topics. Even though they only see me once a month, I try to engage with the class and have them participate and answer questions about the book.
It is a pleasure to give back to the schools by participating in this great program. Look for one if us at your locoal school in January.
