Catch Kids Being Good

 Catch Kids Being Good

There are certain times of the school year when kids have more energy than others.  These are the times that behavior issues can crop up and create classroom management problems.  Sometimes the best way to address behavior issues is to remind children that you're actively looking for good behavior rather than poor behavior.  One simple way to do this is to provide each child with a postcard.  Model the proper way to write a mailing address on the chalkboard.  Remind them to use punctuation and capital letters where necessary.  Ask students to address the postcard to their parents but leave the message section blank.  Collect the postcards and tell the students that when you "catch them being good" you will jot a quick note on a postcard to send to their parents.  Both parents and students will enjoy receiving a positive note from school.

You'll be amazed at the incentive this small strategy can create with your students!
