February is Black History Month; Is Your Classroom Ready?


Black History Month is celebrated in schools and libraries around the country each February and it is a chance for us to reflect on the important people and contributions associated with African Amercican History.

The tradition began in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson who chose the month of February because it marked the birthdays of two highly influential figures in African American History: Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

We are fortunate to have a wealth of information and resources at our fingertips  to bring Black History Month to classroom and communities around the world. Here are some of my favorites online resources that I have found so far:
