The Common Core State Standards call for a better balance of literature and informational texts. The Nonfiction Reading Comprehension series and the Nonfiction Reading Comprehension: Informational Reading series enable teachers to expose students to a wide variety of high-interest, nonfiction articles while building a knowledge base in science and social studies. Each passage is followed by questions that cover main idea, detail, vocabulary, and critical reasoning. The format is similar to that of standardized test, so as students progress through the book's units, they are preparing for success in testing.
Each unit provides:
- Introductory key words
- A high-interest story
- 5 test questions
- reading skills and strategies for informational texts
- main idea and supporting details
- context clues
- sight words/vocabulary
