This lesson teaches the short vowel "'ă". Each lesson includes teacher information, vowel rules, teaching objectives, a picture card and three worksheets. Teacher directed instructions include auditory exercises for whole group instruction. A story or poem to help introduce the vowel and can be displayed on a SMART Board (or other interactive whiteboard) for whole group instruction. The short vowels should be taught in the following order: ă,ĕ,ĭ,ŏ,ŭ and y. Use the breve ˘ symbol over short vowel sounds while students are learning the various rules that pertain to vowels. This will help teach students how to sound out words independently.
