This lesson teaches the long vowel "Ōō". Each lesson includes teacher information, vowel rules, teaching objectives, a picture card and 4 worksheets. Teacher directed instructions include auditory exercises for whole group instruction. A story or poem to help introduce the vowel and can be displayed on a SMART Board (or other interactive whiteboard) for whole group instruction. The long vowels should be taught in the following order: ā,ē,ī,ō,ū,and long y. Use the macron ¯ symbol over long vowel sounds while students are learning the various rules that pertain to vowels. This will help teach students how to sound out words independently.
